Norwich, CT (April 11, 2016) – On Saturday, May 7, 2016, Center for Hospice Care will host its annual WALK at Mohegan Park in Norwich, Connecticut. Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m., opening ceremonies are at 9:45 a.m. with the three-mile walk kicking-off at 10:00 a.m.
Join us, rain or shine, for a fun-filled day featuring activities for all ages including a Kid Zone made possible by Norwich Free Academy’s Project Outreach, refreshments provided by Mohegan Sun, music and entertainment with Franco and 100.9 ROXY FM, a popular Mother’s Day Plant Sale, and a prize drawing.
WALK 2016 will raise critical funds to support care for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Funds also make it possible for Center for Hospice Care to provide bereavement counseling to anyone in Eastern Connecticut, free of charge, regardless of whether they have had someone on our program. Last year alone, over 1,500 families received this care.
This year’s WALK spokesperson, David Cruthers of Groton Long Point, CT, is walking in memory of his parents who both received hospice care. “The hospice staff knew what we needed before we did. For Dad, that meant he could enjoy his last days at his home doing something he loved - looking out the window at the boats going by on the water. For Mom, it meant she was comfortable and surrounded by family in her final days.”
Since his parents’ deaths, Dave has been involved in the Center for Hospice Care WALK. In fact, he has been the top fundraiser for the last 5 years. “My goal this year is to encourage others to raise funds and donate to this great event and organization. I’d love for an individual or team to knock me off the leader board!”
Anyone from the community can walk individually or build their own team of friends, family members or co-workers. Walk in memory of a loved one or simply come out to support Center for Hospice Care and the over 2,200 patients, families and loved ones served each year. Register and start fundraising by visiting www.hospicewalk.kintera.org/2016.
WALK 2016 is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. All proceeds stay right here in Eastern Connecticut helping our neighbors, friends and loved ones. If you cannot join us on that day, you can still raise funds for the event or support a walker. For more information, contact Jennifer at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (860) 848-5699.
