Palliative Care Program of Southeastern Connecticut

The diagnosis of any progressive life limiting illness introduces a host of physical, emotional and social changes that impact the individual and the family. Bringing together the skills and knowledge of our inter-disciplinary team, the Palliative Care Program of Southeastern Connecticut addresses the issues, problems and concerns that patients and families will confront.

Preserving quality of life, while achieving maximum symptom control, is the goal of palliative care. One of the greatest fears most people experience when they learn of their disease, is that they will be in pain or suffer serious side effects from treatment. The advances that have occurred in pain and symptom management are extraordinary. By far, most discomfort can be either eliminated, or at the very least, minimized.

Who is appropriate for the Palliative Care Program?

  • Diagnosis of a progressive illness probably not curable.
  • Patients with a prognosis of 6 months or less.
  • Patients may continue to receive treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, etc.
