Hospice Southeastern Connecticut welcomes Jeffrey Nelson as Director of Community Development

Norwich, CT (March, 2011) – Jeffrey Nelson comes to the agency with a diverse background and a wealth of skills and experiences in eastern Connecticut.  Jeff has spent the past ten years developing positive relationships within the eastern Connecticut community.  His ability to work with a variety of people and ask for their support will be an asset in his new role. 

Role: At the agency, Jeff will direct and coordinate development and fundraising activities and is responsible for the marketing plan and communications.

Background: A background in small business and federal and state government with a focus on government and community engagement, establishing and maintaining relationships with officials, stakeholders, community organizations and individuals. Before joining Hospice Southeastern Connecticut, Jeff was Director of the Governor’s Eastern Office and Deputy District Director for Congressman Rob Simmons.

Personal: Lives in Groton with his fiancée Lisa and their Italian Greyhound Ruby and cats, Kaylee and Sabrina.

Jeff comes from a small business background and understands the challenges of quality as well as internal and external customer service.  Jeff wants to continue working within the community and is looking forward to the challenges of his new role.  Executive Director Carol Mahier says, “Jeff and his principles of honesty, fairness and transparency coupled with a strong work ethic will further Hospice Southeastern Connecticut’s mission to make a positive difference in people’s lives.”

Hospice Southeastern Connecticut provides care in the home and often in skilled nursing facilities for those facing the end of their life, regardless of age, disease or inability to pay.  The organization also provides bereavement services for families in New London County free of charge, regardless of whether the death occurred under hospice care or not.

Hospice Southeastern Connecticut is a community-based, non-profit healthcare organization in New London County.  It is the only regional hospice affiliated with both Lawrence & Memorial Hospital and The William W.
